To learn to truly see and to contextualize our work within the natural world is one of the many gifts of creativity. A color or hue with a relationship to a mineral or other essence of terrain can convey an emotional and fundamental bond with a viewer.
In the conception of Refractory, color theory and exploration were the foundation. We began with collecting minerals, travertines, different colors of horse hair, aged metal patinas, nature's remnants, and oddities. This array of pigments, tones and textures became the platform for our foray into curating a fully considered offering of cast glass colors, solid wood finishes, and bronze patinas.
